This Episode is Part 2 of our candid conversation with Dr. Marilyn Hernandez, OD on the overall prevalence for visual impairment in the Latino community. Here we want to better understand the risk of vision loss from glaucoma. That fact that only 38% of Latinos with glaucoma are aware of their disease and that older age in Latinos is found to be a very important risk factor for the development of glaucoma in this population.

Episode Notes

Dr. Marilyn Hernandez completed her undergraduate studies at the University of California, Berkeley and earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Southern California College of Optometry. After graduating optometry school, Dr. Hernandez completed a one- year residency program with a concentration in Ocular Disease and Primary Eye Care at Hu Hu Kam Memorial Hospital in Sacaton, Arizona, where she served the Native American population of the greater Phoenix area. Currently she practices in Southern California where she provides comprehensive eyecare to all her patients including treating ocular disease, managing diabetic eye disease, and fitting specialty contact lenses.
